DHS (Dirk Hamer Syndrome)
The DHS is the moment in which the individual unconsciously decides that a serious and unexpected ("catching me on the wrong foot") circumstance is proof of isolation from life source. This is the initiating event for a biological conflict and a special biological program (SBS).
The Dirk Hamer Syndrome (DHS) is the moment when we initiate a special biological program in our psyche because, unconsciously, we realize a condition we desire does not exist and we decide that we must resist the reality that does exist.
It is best understood not as a "shock" done to us from outside, but as an overload of our own "context window" — a double-bind, an over-command, a goalpost that has moved, a conversation opened and never closed. The DHS takes place entirely in the psyche; it is not a physical event or circumstance. Grasping this is what makes an intentional resolution of the biological conflict possible. If the DHS was a "shock" done to us from the outside, the only possible resolution would be a change in the external conditions. Healing phases would rarely occur and evolution would be impossible.
(We respond, biologically, to an actual "shock" (electrocution) with a biological program, not a special biological program)
We feel isolated from source ("away from home") because, against our existing Weltanschauung (the beliefs and identities through which we interpret the world), we judge the reality of which we have suddenly become aware as existentially threatening.
When we judge a reality that we have suddenly become aware of as an "existential threat," it means that we are unconsciously judging the circumstance to be proof of our existential isolation. In that DHS moment, we simply stop processing that particular aspect of reality and begin resisting (avoiding the experience of) it.
Named after Dr. Hamer's son Dirk and Dr. Hamer's experience of losing Dirk to manslaughter in 1979, the Dirk Hamer Syndrome was the moment that Dr. Hamer experienced the profound loss/grief conflict which led to his testicular cancer in the healing phase. This experience of his own DHS, followed by resolution and healing phase symptoms, alerted Dr. Hamer to the existence of the first and second biological laws, which he later researched through his thousands of patient case studies.
A biological system and a computer system are analogous as they are both information processing systems. But the DHS is one place a "biocomputer" ("wet system") sharply diverges hard from a ("dry system") computer: when a computer's context window overloads, the session merely degrades. When a biological organism's attentional window overloads (in a DHS), it forms a biological conflict and writes a special biological program. That program rewrites long-term memory itself, editing the organism's phylogeny. The overload reaches back and changes what we permanently are.
This is the literal mechanism of biological evolution.
The meaning consciousness makes in the moment of the DHS generates the biological conflict, launching the SBS and activating the corresponding brain relay and organ tissue within a fraction of a second.
Every special biological program begins with a DHS; there is no SBS without one. And because a DHS happens entirely in the individual's psyche, it is shared meaning-making and shared Weltanschauung — not shared circumstances — that create "epidemics."
(The key to "immunity," therefore, is to avoid herd mentality)
