Psyche

The psyche is the unconscious information-processing "software" of an organism's nervous system: the unconscious or subconscious mind. It is where a DHS takes place, and where a biological conflict forms, initiating a Special Biological Program. When we become fully conscious or aware of something, it is no longer in the psyche.

The psyche is one aspect of your physical organism. Together, your psyche, brain, and body are one integrated information-processing system (a very sophisticated "biocomputer").

Your psyche is the software and operating system of your nervous system — the machine, not the user. It is made of thoughts, each of which is an as-yet unfulfilled intention to relate. In this sense, thoughts are if-then-goto processes of the biocomputer. The one operating that software is consciousness; the psyche is how consciousness's meaning-making gets executed, automatically and outside conscious awareness.

Just as a computer "psyche" runs on machine language – a combination of zeros and ones or off/on switches – your psyche runs on the binary combination of "yeses" and "nos." It is essentially an extremely sophisticated evolution of basic organic action-reaction and "stimulus response."

Through this mechanism, the psyche translates consciousness' desires and aversions into conflict logic, priorities, and survival-oriented operations, all outside of conscious awareness.

The conscious mind is only the tiniest tip of this iceberg; the psyche is the vast bulk beneath the waterline. At every moment the psyche is not only running the unconscious processes that keep you alive — regulating blood parameters, breathing, hormones, posture and balance, and far more — it is also processing, for a human such as yourself, the roughly 11 million bits per second (≈11 Mbps) streaming in through all your senses, including proprioception, alongside memory and the rest. Of that torrent, a human's conscious awareness handles only about 50 bits per second. By that measure the unconscious psyche is on the order of 200,000 times larger than the conscious mind it quietly supports. The ratio is even higher for organisms with smaller prefrontal cortices.

The psyche is the origin point of a DHS (Dirk Hamer Syndrome). A DHS is not a physical event or circumstance; it is the individual's sudden, unconscious realization — occurring in his or her psyche — that a desired condition does not exist (or that an unwanted condition does exist), experienced as unexpected, serious, and isolating from the source of one's existence. Best understood not as a "shock" done from outside but as an overload of one's own "context window," it is the moment a biological conflict forms in the psyche and a Special Biological Program initiates in psyche, brain, and body.

Because the psyche is unconscious operation, people often confuse it with conscious emotions, beliefs, or identities. Those all arise from the psyche (compulsively so when it comes to the content of a biological conflict), but the psyche itself is the underlying automatic process of the nervous system that:

  1. fixates attention on conflict content,
  2. drives the organism into the fixed or stuck identity of the conflict-active state, and
  3. releases that state at the moment of conflict resolution, which is when the unconscious biological conflict becomes conscious ("conflictolysis").

(During the epi-crisis in the healing phase, the psyche will temporarily re-form the fixed or stuck identity)

Contrary to both popular psychology and New Age thinking, the psyche is cannot be touched by "positive thinking," and it's not a mystical force. It is the organism's unconscious, where conflicts, tracks, and resolutions originate, recur, and resolve, while the brain and nervous system translate those unconscious priorities into coordinated changes across the entire organism.
